Indeex Digital Twin Platform Expansion into the Beverage Industry

Introduction
Indeex specializes in providing advanced technology solutions tailored to the food and beverage industries. This case study explores Indeex’s strategic expansion into the beverage sector in collaboration with KLIAFA S.A., an innovative beverage producer located in Trikala. The primary
objectives of this project are to address sustainability challenges in urban areas while aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The case study has been implemented with the support of U-Solve, a project funded by the EU under the ENI CBC Med Programme, with a total budget of 9,630.00€. The entire project budget (100%) has been funded by the U-Solve program.

The Problem

The motivation behind this project arises from the complex challenges faced by industries situated in smaller towns like Trikala, where industrial zones often coexist in proximity to urban centers. This combination naturally raises worries regarding environmental factors, like the carbon footprint of the industry, in addition to the impacts of climate change. Furthermore, a current global need in the industrial sector is the complex task of optimizing productivity and sustainability. It is worth noting that these issues directly correlate with SDGs about industry, innovation, and sustainable development.

The Solution

Indeex’s innovative solution centers on digital transformation and data-driven optimization. The platform empowers industries to significantly enhance both productivity and sustainability by harnessing the power of real-time data and actionable insights. The project introduces an innovative perspective through the application of digital twin technology, which facilitates real-time monitoring and optimization, a novel approach within the beverage industry.

Innovation & Creativity

This project stands out for its focus on innovation and creativity. Indeex is leading the way by introducing digital twin technology for real-time monitoring and optimization, a new and groundbreaking approach not previously explored in the beverage sector. The project draws from the success of past expansions, ensuring its viability within the two-month timeline. This innovative solution is poised to transform industry practices, enhancing sustainability and inspiring others to follow suit.

Achievements

Indeex’s expansion into the beverage sector has yielded significant achievements, driven by the innovative features integrated into the Digital Twin Platform. The “Proactive Alerts” system, a key project deliverable, has proven instrumental in mitigating potential malfunctions and production threats by continuously monitoring ongoing processes and comparing them with established benchmarks. For instance, it detected significant decreases in machinery availability during the initial hours of production batches, triggering an immediate notification and enhancing operational efficiency. Moreover, the “Sustainability Insights” feature empowers industries to make data-driven decisions and drive sustainability. Through real-time data analysis and insights, the platform identified energy inefficiencies and provides actionable recommendations for reducing consumption, ultimately reducing the carbon footprint and operating costs and enabling sustainability improvement. Furthermore, by automating daily reporting processes, Indeex helped KLIAFA S.A. transition to paperless reporting, enhancing transparency in production processes. This automation was based on real-time equipment data, eliminating the need for error-prone handwritten reports and ensuring a reliable and transparent record of every aspect of production.

Furthermore, the pilot project has established the foundation for enduring positive transformations within the city. Although these changes may not yet be fully perceptible, the platform’s implementation has paved the way for ongoing enhancements. By increasing production efficiency while minimizing resource usage, KLIAFA SA can achieve greater productivity while generating a minimal carbon footprint within the city. This underscores the platform’s potential to promote ecological sustainability and long-term economic prosperity. Last but not least, by integrating data-driven procedures, KLIAFA SA will be able to deeply analyze its processes in the near future, and optimize further crucial parameters, like water consumption, that are also impacting the urban environment nearby.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Indeex’s entry into the beverage industry marks a significant milestone in the company’s journey. This project is at the forefront of integrating digital twin technology for real-time monitoring and optimization, addressing critical sustainability challenges encountered by urban industries. Additionally, it aligns seamlessly with the broader framework of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The collaboration with KLIAFA S.A. underscores the project’s importance and potential impact. In essence, this expansion project not only promises to reshape the food and beverage industries but also serves as a model for innovative and sustainable solutions in a rapidly changing world.
